Tourists to be deported over alleged damage, defecation at Machu Picchu

Five tourists arrested for damaging and defecating at Peru’s Machu Picchu site will be deported to Bolivia. A sixth was released from custody and ordered to remain in Machu Picchu pending trial. Police said that the tourists from Chile, Brazil, France and Argentina, snuck into a restricted area of the ruins illegally and caused damage. One of them also defecated inside the Incan city.

From the article, sounds like the chipped stone was possibly accidental. The others hid and slept in the ruins for some reason; deportation is acceptable.

Idiots defacing and damaging irreplaceable historical sites ought to be punished more severely.
