Federal Aviation Administration to investigate jet fuel dumped on schools

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate why an airliner with engine trouble dumped jet fuel over a densely populated area near LA, including elementary schools, while making an emergency landing only minutes after taking off Tuesday. Fuel dumps are sometimes required to for emergency landings but the pilots had said situation was not critical and fuel dump not needed.

They used a procedure that says if an emergency landing is nessary dump fuel. But if they hadn't dumped because of the situation and something had gone wrong would they be in any less trouble? This is one of the reasons procedures have to give outs so when the lawyer asks why you took an action you can point at something. Instead of him just doing "you thought you didn't have to follow the procedure"

This is a non-headline. The FAA investigates all incidence like this. Plane crashes, malfunctions, aborted flights. There's paperwork for all that stuff. The fact that some kids got some jet fuel on them (harmless in the amounts they got, but I get why people are a little worried) has nothing to do with it.
