Trump rips Apple for refusing to unlock phones ’used by killers’

President Trump has accused Apple of refusing to unlock phones used by killers and criminals while benefiting from government help on trade. Trump’s statement came on the heels of AG William Barr’s call for Apple to cooperate with the FBI - which has been struggling to get past the encryption on two iPhones belonging to the Saudi military trainee who attacked the naval base in Florida in December.

Too bad. The government tries to get unconstitutional access all the time and uses weaselly emotional manipulation like this to do so.

This is one of those privacy issues that would snowball over time. Apple may literally be the devil incorporated, but if there's a precedent set now that let's the government do things like this, then it's only a matter of time before it gets much worse.

This is a very long conversation... governments should not have open access to private information ..... however bad people need to be removed from society and evidence is needed. One question I would have is who legally owns the data? I’m assuming Apple owns it and they can access it. If so wouldn’t they be liable for obstruction of justice? If the individual owns the data and Apple have no internal policies allowing the company to access the data then the government should not be allowed access. This issue melts my head
