States sue to block attempt to cuts food stamps

A coalition of states and cities filed a lawsuit aiming to block the Trump administration from eliminating food stamp benefits for the unemployed. The administration’s new rules will restrict the ability of states to provide food stamps to jobless residents. The lawsuit said the rule threatens to deprive ’between 688,000 and 850,000 vulnerable Americans of much-needed nutritional assistance’.

I once saw a guy buy junk food with food stamps then spend $40 cash on scratch-its.

If you are capable of working but still need help with food Then what’s the issue with asking someone to work to revive benefits. If you can work but refuse to even look and still want bennies the sorry you shouldn’t get any.

Way is it that liberals think everything should be free? Yes, we should help each other when help is needed, but to encourage a system that makes people dependent on a government handout is not helping people.

Cities and states don't want to deal with the issue, so they bend over for the federal government.

Why don't they put their money where their mouths are and make up the difference?

They're not cutting any American's access to food stamps. They're cutting unemployed non-citizen's access... It's not America's job to feed other country's jobless. Buh bye dead weight.

I agree there should be a social help net. But when people use it as a hammock there is a problem. We need a more strict qualification system for it.

Citiy and state politicians don't want to tax citizens for the services they promise in order to get elected. They'd rather have the federal government do it. If course, the voters have no way to stop the federal largess with their money.

There are some who get food stamps who sell them for 50 cents on the dollar cash. I think we should give them food and a broom and say clean 4 blocks of streets in town.

let's be realistic. judging when you're not in that situation. assumptions. there was a reason why SNAP was started in the 1st place, as were Social security, unions, employment benefits etc. the system is not perfect, example wealthy paying for kids to go colleges not qualified.

I'm a recipient of food stamps. I'm also on SSI disability. What Trump is trying takes states right to dispense the benefits even if a portion is funded by the department of HUD. If it were possible for me to find a job at my age that would benefit both i would go to work.I don't agree with all the rules that have to be followed. I don't approve of Trump. Something needs to be done to control his temper and rants & berating those who speak out against him. The benefits he is wanting to take away from the people is taking food out of not only adults also children. Leave welfare benefits alone. There are other programs that can be cut. I'm from old school politics.
