More US cops died from suicide than on duty in 2019

As per a study by advocacy group Blue H.E.L.P., the number of US cops who died by suicide in 2019 was significantly higher than those killed in the line of duty. 228 officers died by suicide, while 132 officers died in the line of duty in 2019. NY reported 23 suicides followed by California and Texas. The organization has aimed to call attention to mental-health concerns among law enforcement.

There is a good side to this, that cops aren't being murdered on the streets. Not to detract from the tragedy that is suicide, but it will unfortunately always be a factor with emergency services, just like soldiers. They see a lot of horrific stuff.

Suicide is very disheartening regardless of who it afflicts. This statistic implies more police are killing themselves than perishing. This new study might be implicating that more and more of our police force isn’t mentally equipped for their profession, and/or psychological training/vetting needs improvements.

Not to mention EMS and Fire. Even dispatchers have a hard time, but I think Police have it hardest. Its really hard to make connection with people and get what you have seen off your chest. Very difficult.

Try wearing the badge.. Responding to see the way ppl treat each other.. Meantime balance ur home life.. Cops r people just like u n often while protecting n serving u they face same issues n pressures as u.. U would be shocked to see how ppl they engage with treat them.. Rich poor it doesn't matter.. N there r more great cops then jerk cops out there.. The ptsd rate is huge . It's sometimes hellish days n nites n u cant bring it home to the family.. I luv the jerks u stop with big money n often have the attitude they r above law n their speeding n their obsfugation of law is less important.. The hell they give u is hysterical.. Their histrionics pathetic

Same thing... Society has treated them like sh*t for years while they perform an extremely stressful and difficult job. Society is as responsible as if they did the deed themselves.

This, while tragic, is a good indication that the dangers of law enforcement are dropping, which is a good thing.
