Complaints of unintended acceleration in Tesla Cars prompts government scrutiny

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into complaints by Tesla car owners that all three of the electric vehicle models can suddenly accelerate on their own. An agency document shows 127 owner complaints to the government that include 110 crashes and 52 injuries.

No officer it wasn't my fault I was speeding, the car just accelerated on it's own I promise!

Unintended Acceleration? No that's a feature to make the user alert. Next idea is break checks.

While this is dangerous, it is not just a Tesla problem. Ford had these same issues with the 2012-2014 model of Explorer. There were many reports of stoplight, and parking lot accidents that were due to the car's computer down shifting without rev-limiting, this caused the vehicle to be in a low gear high RPM... in simple terms the car shifts down before ready causing it to go ZOOOOM!

Pressing on the break should forcefully cut the power to the motors.

Drew makes a good point that plenty of car manufacturers have had issues in the past including toyota with pedals getting stuck. Hopefully they fix the problem soon!
