Mnuchin himself doesn’t even understand economics. There’s many different schools of economics and the ones taught in the US is neoclassical and Keynesian economics. It’s like taking a class all on religion but your teacher only teaches you about Christianity and Judaism. When you’re only taught that there’s 2 different camps within that doctrine it skews your framing of thinking.

I'd amend that to, "Greta, please study something." In other words, stay in school and try to have a normal, non-rage-filled life.

So ironic. Mnuchin should advice his president to study—at least read—the USA constitution, learn about foreign policy, and many other subjects before criticizing a 17 year old who’s concerned about her life, earth and the rest of humanity.

Mnuchin seems easily confused. He is certainly not qualified for the job title he has. Perhaps he needs a refresher in how causality is associated to blatant disregard to environmental impacts?

The negative effects of certain industries on the environment is not strictly an economic issue. Do economists study environmental science?

The natural world and economic world are linked. Global warming will cause destruction to the natural world. Greta Thunberg is absolutely right to point the symbiotic relationship between the natural world and the economic world. Finally, we can’t sustain life without taking care of nature.

I love how a 16 yo girl keeps owning this administration. "Is she the chief economist, or who is she? I'm confused," the secretary replied. "It's a joke. After she goes and studies economics in college she can come back and explain that to us." Thunberg responded to Mnuchin on Twitter later Thursday. "My gap year ends in August, but it doesn't take a college degree in economics to realise that our remaining 1,5° carbon budget and ongoing fossil fuel subsidies and investments don't add up," she said. "So either you tell us how to achieve this mitigation or explain to future generations and those already affected by the climate emergency why we should abandon our climate commitments."
