US invokes emergency powers after cyberattack shuts crucial fuel pipeline

The US Govt. invoked emergency legislation Sunday after the largest fuel pipeline in the country was hit by a ransomware cyber-attack. The Colonial Pipeline carries 2.5M barrels a day, 45% of the East Coast’s supply of diesel, gasoline and jet fuel. Work is ongoing to restore service after it was knocked offline by a cyber-criminal gang. The emergency status enables fuel to be transported by road.
