State Department should re-instate NPR reporter on Pompeo trip: Senate Democrat

Demands were made on Tuesday by the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to have an NPR reporter re-instated on Mike Pompeo’s trip to Europe and Central Asia. The journalist was reportedly removed from the group of journalists travelling with the Secretary of State after a tense interview with another NPR reporter.

Why is the government funding NPR? They should raise funds independently like everyone else.

NPR do raise funds every year doing pledge drives. But like PBS, they're partially funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a non-profit that helps fund a whole lot (wiki says over 1400) of public radio/TV stations across the US, some of which are NPR stations. About 2% of NPR's funding comes from CPB. I recognize their bias in some reporting, but I'm not at all convinced the world would be a better place without NPR, so I can't get too upset about their stations receiving a small portion of their overall funding in this way. A lot of their programming is actually quite high-quality.

Awww. That's just too bad...

Just send a different reporter. This is such an inane issue for NPR to be complaining about.

no they shouldn't.

Why are Trump and his admin cronies so thin-skinned? So very glad they were not the ones in charge when I was in school! No one would have been able to have had an "independent" thought; those vulnerable, tender hearted youngsters would never have been free of the dim-witted bullies!

Carol, wipe the spittle off your chin. It's very unbecoming.
