Drug overdose deaths fell in 2018

As per a report by the CDC, US drug overdose deaths fell for the first time in 28 years in 2018 but remain near record highs. More than 67,000 deaths were recorded in 2018, down 4% from over 70,000 in 2017. That translates to 20.7 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 people in 2018, compared to 21.7 in 2017. This is also the first recorded fall in overdose deaths in the last 29 years.
