Partial descendant of ’Lonesome George’ species found

Conservationists working around the Galapagos Islands say they have found 30 giant tortoises partially descended from two extinct species, including the famed ’Lonesome George’. One young female is believed to have had a direct line of descent from the Chelonoidis abingdonii species of Pinta island. The last of those was Lonesome George, who died in 2012.
