Britain’s Johnson warns global free trade is being choked

British Prime Minister Johnson and European Union negotiator Barnier set out opening gambits in negotiating a trade deal. In a speech Monday to business leaders and international diplomats Johnson says we want a free trade agreement but not at any cost. Boris stating, politicians who are failing to lead, the mercantilists are everywhere, the protectionists are at fault for economic failures.

Borris's speech was really good. He is right the politicians who are over regulating but protecting special interests are a problem.

I'm actually curious what he is getting at. Lots of things to criticize EU for, but being against free trade wasn't one that comes to my mind -- they push for lower barriers in general. Also, was Boris taking a swipe at Donald Trump who loves trariff and "America First" mercantilism.

Johnson wants it both ways.

Boris complains about free trade restrictions as he moves forward with putting restrictions on free trade with the EU. Cool story but the prime minister doth protest too much, methinks. What he's actually saying is that he isn't getting free trade on terms and conditions he wants and that makes him sad.
