Pablo Escobar’s hippos are now an invasive species, befouling lakes

As per reports, large wild hippos once owned by Pablo Escobar have become an invasive species whose waste is wreaking havoc on Colombia’s aquatic ecosystem. This was the conclusion of a new study published this week in the journal Ecology. Escobar’s four hippos have reportedly multiplied to 80 hippos. The study found that the hippo waste fertilizes harmful algae and bacteria.
