India says no plans yet to implement a citizenship registry

The Indian government has said it is still weighing whether to roll out a nationwide citizenship registry amid continuing protests against a citizenship law. Opponents of the citizenship law claim it is discriminatory and unconstitutional because it excludes Muslims. The protests have also raised doubts about census exercise expected to be conducted in April.
