Disappointed that US backed out on landmine policy: EU

The United States of America considers landmines as being an important weapon of war as they plan to use anti-personnel landmines more widely. The European Union expressed their regret on the US backtracking from the landmine policy. The landmines can kill people long after wars have ended as well.

Yes I suppose if you take these headlines at face value, you might be justified in autistic screeching...but that’s only if you discount the fact that these treaties or arms agreements or whatever we’re usually made before the internet existed. Just like everything else since then, technology has increased exponentially. The land mines we’re talking about now (that still seem low tech to me) can be programmed to go inert or self destruct at a given time, probably have some gps crap on them so they can be retrieved, and might as well shoot rainbows We arnt using the mines the French used in nam in the 50s that are still occasionally going off, just like we arnt using Rolodexes or pagers anymore. Same goes for the Soviet era icbm treaty we pulled out of a while back. Everyone clutched their pearls saying trump was gonna start a war with his Russian handlers (makes sense). That treaty limited mid range ICBMs, that as a concept are totally obsolete with the 40 years of tech improvements to long range ICBMs

EU seems to have a lot of regrets lately.

I actually agree with the EU on this one. Landmines are just not a practical or efficient weapon anymore and present an unnecessary threat to civilians.
