No intention of licensing news outlets, says Canadian government

Canada’s broadcasting and telecommunications minister tried to reassure citizens that the government is not preparing to license news outlets. ’Our government has no intention to impose licensing requirements on news organizations nor will we try to regulate news content’, Heritage Minister Guilbeault said. He said his original comments were meant for organizations that produce cultural content.

They already do, buy selectively accrediting them for various events and selectively paying some with grants. If your organization is anti- Liberal, you aren't allowed at government events and you aren't given grant monies the others get. In one case, you even get sued repeatedly by the government using loose interpretations of the law.
