China halves tariffs on $75 billion of US goods

China announced Thursday it will cut tariffs on $75 billion of U.S. imports by half, starting next week. The tariff-reduction will apply on 1,717 US goods. This latest announcement to reduce tariffs is China’s first response to the ’phase one’ agreement. The announcement is also seen by analysts as a move by Beijing to boost confidence amid a virus outbreak that has disrupted businesses.

I bet China is desperate for some good right now. They were already hurting from the tariffs last year, then the coronavirus and all the trade pain from nations stopping business with them.

This is China holding up their end of the Phase 1 trade deal. Good news but there still needs to be a Phase 2. We are not done yet.

Are tarriffs actually lower than when Trump took office or are they just undoing PART of what they did in response to Trump. Is it one step forward after two steps back? I can't tell from the articles.
