NASA’s solar orbiter set for historic mission to the sun

On Sunday night, a joint mission between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) will launch the Solar Orbiter from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The spacecraft will image the surface of the sun, coming closer to the star than any European satellite has before. The solar orbiter contains 10 instruments meant to take measurements otherwise hard to get from Earth-bound orbit.

The Parker Solar Probe and the Solar Orbier working together should help us learn a great deal more about our nearest star.
