Amid Covid crisis, India is battling a surge of ’black fungus’

As India grapples with a deadly second wave of Covid-19, a new threat has emerged - a rare infection called mucormycosis, or the ’black fungus.’ The disease, which can lead to blackening or discoloration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing blood, is linked to diabetes. Cases have also been reported in UK, US, France, Austria, Brazil and Mexico.

I find the naming of this fungus culturally insensitive and am calling for a boycott of the International Fungus Unilateral Naming System.

With the amount of emphasis we have as a sodiety to wash our hands, wear masks, social distance, and not touch our face, you'd think we'd at least talk about physical fitness. Granted, diabetes (as mentioned in the summary) has two types, one of which is outside of our control entirely. But with both COVID and now this black fungus being tied to conditions of body weight, maybe going for a daily 2km walk (or cutting down on the big macs) can be a little less controvercial to suggest to people.

STOP SH1TTING IN OPEN PUBLIC AND THIS WONT BE A PROBLEM! Open defecation is the more horrific pandemic than COVID in India.
