Iran to launch satellite; US says program linked to missiles

Iran plans to launch a satellite on Sunday as part of a fledgling program the US says is a cover for ballistic missile development. ’The Zafar satellite will be placed in orbit today from Semnan at a speed of 7,400 kilometers’, Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology said. Iran carried out at least two failed satellite launches last year.

How exactly is this "cover" for a ballistic missile? How else do you think satellites are rail gun? You think Sputnik freaked us out because it beeped? To break it down Barney style: if you can launch something into orbit, you can bring it back down anywhere on earth. The only relevant issue to the payload is just how much weight you can boost into orbit.
