Identity politics is a trap to democracy, says Indonesia’s Joko Widodo

Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has addressed Australia’s Parliament. He opened his speech with ’G’day mate’ and called for both nations to join forces to improve human rights, overcome fear of poverty, threat of climate change and to stop intolerance, xenophobia, radicalism and terrorism. He said that identity politics is a trap to democracy, threat to diversity and to tolerance.

The statement isn’t wrong. Identity politics is a baseless way to judge someone when you should be looking at their voting record, what policies do they support, and who gives them money. Identity politics are very divisive.

Identity politics is the rot feasting on the expired flesh of Marxism and Progressivism. To see our western culture slide from Martin Luther King's dream back into this 'intersectional' nightmare of judging everyone by their most differential features to tally some grievance points system is to the normal decent person every bit as offensive to the senses as the aforementioned stench of rot. It's time we cremated Marxism and Progressivism, and tolerate the stench no longer. it's dead. it's been dead for over half a century. It's time to move on...

Why is there a picture of Joko Widodo (Indonesian PM) and Scott Morrison (Australian PM) on this headline? If there were a summary or some linked articles, it may help give some context, but without them I'm left puzzled.

Politicians divide the people to seek advantage. Statesmen unify the people to seek the best from everyone. This explains why our nation has become so divided. It's literally a strategic effort.

"Identity politics is a threat to democracy, a threat to diversity and a threat to tolerance. These threats will become even more [real] when exploited for short-term political interests, resulting in hatred, fear and even social conflict." I'm glad to see that sone politicians are beginning to realize that despite their intentions identity politics hurts diversity and tolerance.

Lol, identity politics are an inevitable direct result of a maturing democracy. It's why we live in a representative constitutional republic.
