An app that allows users to check whether they have been close to a person who has been infected by Coronavirus has been launched by China. The app shows people who have been suspected of having the virus and confirmed cases as well.

I don't know the specifics, but it seems like they have to give the government access to all their location history. Then they can build a reverse history of phones coming close to each other. If any person is confirmed in the chain then they start to quarantine whole areas.
