Soot dating back to the start of the Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth century has been detected on the Himalayas. According to the findings of a new study, published in PNAS, traces of toxic metals from 1780 were detected in an ice core sample taken from the Dasuopu glacier on Shishapangma, 23,600 feet above sea level, by a team of researchers.
