Justice Dept. sues California, N.J., Washington over ’sanctuary’ laws

The US Justice Department announced it is suing local and state governments in California, New Jersey and Washington state claiming they are flouting federal immigration law through local ’sanctuary’ policies. In all three jurisdictions, the department argues that the state or local governments are violating the supremacy clause of the Constitution by interfering with a federal activity.
