Fossils of ’car-sized’ turtle found in South America

Fossils of a turtle the size of a car have been unearthed in northern South America. The fossils of the turtle, called Stupendemys geographicus, which got up to four meters long and weighed as much as 1.25 tonnes, were found in Colombia’s Tatacoa Desert and Venezuela’s Urumaco region. Researchers say the giant turtle lived at the bottom of lakes and rivers alongside giant crocodile.
