US ’blacklists’ Russian oil firm Rosneft for helping Maduro regime in Venezuela

The Trump administration has issued an order freezing all US-held assets of the Russian state-controlled oil company Rosneft, alleging that the company’s oil exports fund the regime of disputed president Nicolás Maduro. The sanctions are part of a campaign to oust Maduro and replace him with opposition leader Juan Guaidó, who the US and many allies recognize as Venezuela’s legitimate president.

Big deal IMO. Been a lot of nothing going on for a long time in the Trump–Maduro fight; if the US freezes all of Rosneft's dollars—which, by the way, freezes Rosneft out of the global market, because the dollar is the intermediate currency of the world—then that really tightens the screws on Maduro because then he can't pay his lackeys. It's a beautiful thing, American hegemony. **Full disclosure:** I submitted both the story and its summary, so I have an axe to grind for calling this out as a Bigge Deale.
