Mississippi’s six-week abortion ban struck down by federal judge panel

A federal appeals court has upheld a block on a Mississippi law that would ban abortion at the detection of a fetal heartbeat (six weeks into a pregnancy). A three-judge panel found the law to be unconstitutional because it would ban abortion before viability. The Mississippi ban passed in 2019 is the first to be blocked at the appeals court level.
