US and Afghan Taliban agree to ’reduction in violence’ deal

Officials have said the US and the Taliban have signed an agreement for a seven-day ’reduction in violence’ beginning on Saturday. ’This is an important step on a long road to peace’, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. If successful, the two sides will sign the first phase of a deal aimed at ending the conflict.
