Record low turnout in Iran’s elections; Hardliners set for majority

Iran has seen the lowest turnout in a parliamentary election since the 1979 revolution. Just 42.6% of eligible voters cast their ballots. However, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei described the turnout as stunning, dismissing fears of the coronavirus outbreak as an exaggeration. As per reports, candidates affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards looked on course to win a majority.
