Chess champion Garry Kasparov predicts that most US jobs will be replaced by AI

In an interview with a panel of AI experts, former chess World Champion Garry Kasparov claimed to be the first knowledge worker who lost his job to AI and said: ’96 percent of jobs, I call them zombie jobs. They’re dead, they just don’t know it.’ According to experts, only about 14 percent of US jobs are at risk of replacement by AI and robots.

Chess AI surpassed humans in 1996. We now have AI surpassing top players in Starcraft. But 96% of jobs replaced soon? Unlikely

1. His job as a human chess champion is not lost. 2. True, many jobs will be disrupted, so what, are we turning back now? Even Taliban and IS with their fundamentalism use AKs and Toyota trucks.

This is pretty accurate. In the long run nobody is safe from disruption. However it's going to happen in stages. Factories, call centers, driving first then more skilled stuff like construction and diagnostics, finally more creative things like engineering and design. the real measure of how automatable your job is, is how repetitive is it. lawyers are losing co tracts and such because it's the same thing over and over, same with factories and call centers. Things that require creative thinking are much harder. And the things where people prefer a human touch, like nursing and some types of food service will simply never fully go out of style

most people said similar things every time technology is introduced throughout history, but the adoption is slow and needs to have oversight, so it's not like turning on a switch and everyone lost their job

Chess has series of finite math moves thus not hard to out program a human

14% is still a lot tho. And we're not getting replacement jobs fast enough.

Let's see, they have been saying the same exact thing... since about 1812. That machines will take all your jobs. Except that hasn't happened yet. I'm thinking that it's unlikely that it will.
