Anger in Florida after Sanders appears sympathetic to Castro regime

Cuban-American Democrat voters in Florida have expressed disappointment with ’radical’ Bernie Sanders after the leading Democratic presidential candidate made sympathetic remarks about the communist regime of Fidel Castro. Sanders, who describes himself as a ’democratic socialist’, said it would be ’unfair’ to describe Castro’s brutally repressive regime as ’all bad.’

I’ve seen YouTube videos showing Cuban life and they aren’t pretty. This Bernie character can’t be serious, can he?

I love when folks try to tout Cuba had a 100% literacy rate....then I point out they weren't allowed to report those who weren't literate. Carebares in America who have never experienced the outside world shouldn't be saying we need to change the system that people flock to from around the world in an effort to make it more like the rest of the world.

I agree with Bernie. It’s unfair to SAY everything was bad. It’s not unfair to OBSERVE that everything was bad. The man was a dairy addict and an absolute loon.

It's unfair to say that everything was bad under Hitler's rule. Unemployment was at a record low and the infrastructure was greatly improved.

He’s right. Saying everything about Cuba was bad is just as unfair as saying everything about the US is bad. Most of the time things aren’t that black and white.

Yeah Bernie, and, ya know what, Nazi Germany wasn't all bad either. Hitler developed a great sense of national unity and had some great military strategies for the early years of the war, he even ended the hyperinflation Germany was suffering under after the first world war. We should praise Hitler for doing a good too, just like Castro. In case anyone can't tell, yes, this is sarcasm

Cuban's reading program. Cuban students are first and foremost the object of an intensive yearlong brainwashing exercise that aspires to produce perfectly submissive subjects of the all-powerful communist state. This is what lies in wait for Elian Gonzalez once Castro's brainwashing psychiatrists finish erasing his memories of what freedom in the U.S. was like. This is the Cuba that Newsweek's Brook Larmer and John Leland wrote about in an April 17 article comparing Cuba favorably with these dangerous https://www.cubanet.org/htdocs/CNews/y00/ago00/07e11.htm
