House makes lynching a federal crime

The Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act was passed overwhelmingly in the House. The act makes lynching punishable by life imprisonment, a fine, or both. The Senate had passed its own anti-lynching legislation last year. The Act is named after a 14-year-old black boy Emmett Till who was murdered in Mississippi in 1955 for talking to a white woman.

Freaking waste of time and money. Murder is already illegal, as is attempted murder.

Here is the exact text the bill wants to add to the existing code, specifically by moving paragraph 4 to be paragraph 5, and adding this bit in after paragraph 3: “(4) OFFENSES INVOLVING LYNCHING.—Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, willfully, acting as part of any collection of people, assembled for the purpose and with the intention of committing an act of violence upon any person, causes death to any person, shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life, fined under this title, or both.”. And... for any one curious, here is paragraph 1 from USC18 §249. Hate crime acts: "(1) Offenses involving actual or perceived race, color, religion, or national origin.—Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, willfully causes bodily injury to any person or, through the use of fire, a firearm, a dangerous weapon, or an explosive or incendiary device, attempts to cause bodily injury to any person, because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, or national origin of any person— (A) shall be imprisoned not more than 10 years, fined in accordance with this title, or both; and (B) shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life, fined in accordance with this title, or both, if— (i) death results from the offense; or (ii) the offense includes kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill" THIS, ladies and gentlemen and zirs and zeers and attack helicopters of whatever flavor... is your congress hard at working, having one law say the same damn thing twice. What.. a fucking... achievement.

Is it called lynching if a black man hangs a white man? This is ridiculous. Murder and attempted murder are already against the law.

Seems like odd timing. Does more to push the racist America agenda than to serve any practical purpose. Has there been a lynching since the 50's? I mean a real one not a hoax perpetrated by a pampered actor.

Murder has been illegal for a LONG time. This is pure showboating.

Finally, you can go to prison (or be fined...or both) for murder! All you lynchers, watch out! No more carte blanche to hang people!

Not a waste of time... They found young Mr till in a creek with noose around his neck a cotten gin tied to it... And it remains an unsolved murder... After a white female lied and said Mr till winked at her as he exited a store.... Imagine if that were ur son

That is "not" gonna stop wypepo! Anytime you will bring your children out to see a human being being: hung up, belly cut open, children/babies fed to crocodiles, etc. their "sensitivity" is shot. After that, nothing is untolerable! From that point on, their psyche is completely damaged; nothing the "devil" uses them for is too much! They are "his" children!
