Man thrashed because of baggage tag

Man thrashed because of baggage tag

An Indian man was beaten up by fellow passengers in a train after they suspected him of being a terrorist. What triggered the suspicion was an airline tag of ’BOM’ (an abbreviation for the Indian city of Bombay) on his baggage. The mob confused it with ’BOMB’ and began beating Ganesh Shinde up. BOM is the code for Mumbai International Airport.

You see, a proper bomb necessarily has a tag saying "BOMB". Like in a movie, a countdown timer must have a little display attached. And if you run fast enough, you can outrun an explosion.

This story is suspicious as hell. "Shinde asked Shankar to come with him near the passage in front of the train’s gates, as he wanted to show him an interesting 'recipe to make bomb'." The guy who was beaten was Shinde. The rail police reported that to the india times as part of the story. Why would Shinde say something weird like that? I wouldn't be surprised if this turned into a story about Hindu Nationalists beating up a man they think is Muslim, and making up some half-assed story to the rail police.
