US Defense linguist in Iraq charged with transmitting classified intelligence

A linguist working for the DoD was arrested last week on charges of giving top-secret information to a Lebanese national with ties to Hezbollah. Mariam Taha Thompson, 61, was arrested at a US Special Operations Task Force facility in Erbil, Iraq, where she worked as a contract linguist. The discovery came on Dec 30, a day after the US launched air strikes against Iranian-backed forces in Iraq.
