New legislation puts pressure on social media to perform as platforms

Tech companies resist legislation proposed to target online child exploitation due to the impact it would have on strong encryption for billions of users. The legislation also threatens the reclassification of liability for social media companies as publishers, rather than platforms, under the law unless they can satisfy certain bipartisan criteria, hence the name of the legislation: ’earn it act’

On the one hand, I want to stop child porn. On the other hand, I hated the USA Patriot Act and this is more along the same lines. The thing is, VPN exists, as does the dark web. That's where most of that stuff is found.

Government needs to stop trying to be the parent, same with FB Twitter and the like. we're expecting robots to take the role of parents It's not going to happen without the exsessive dumbing down of society.
