Global Canopy says 140 companies need plans to stop rain forest deforestation

UK-based environmental group Global Canopy tracked the policies of 500 companies and financial institutions with the most influence on tropical forests. Report finds 140 companies that rely on six key commodities have no policy to prevent deforestation in their operations and supply chains. Nor do nearly 70% of the 150 banks that provide financing to these companies.

Why would they have to make such a commitment? Do people now need permission from the 'activists' before they take any action?

They need to relocate their cattle farms and such, which is the biggest destroyer of rainforests, to Mongolia and the steppe. There's just miles and miles of open flat grassland with nothing on it.
