After reports estimate that at least 5,000 koalas died in the recent fires in New South Wales (12% of the population in the state), conservation groups are asking the government to declare koalas endangered. The New South Wales government is reportedly convening an independent panel to assess the effect the bushfires had on koalas.
I'm pretty sure you can't properly survey let alone conserve for the numbers of koalas while the fire is still ongoing.
What are these things anyway? They make the strangest noise!
in all fairness the fact that they all have Chlamydia does not help their numbers...
save the koala, ban arson
why do we worry so much over suicidal species? these guys have to eat half a day of nothing but poisonous leaves and then sleep the other half to digest them. Why are we so adamant on stopping natural selection?
Don’t they give virus/disease of some sort?
12% of the population in NSW equates to more like 1% or less of the total population. seems like attempt at publicity.
But what about the Dropbears?
