Austin cancels SXSW over coronavirus concerns

The South by Southwest music, technology and film festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, has been canceled on Friday over coronavirus fears. The annual showcase of pop culture had been scheduled to run March 13 to 22. Apple, Netflix, Facebook and others had pulled out of the event in recent days, ramping up the pressure to scrap it entirely.

The issue isn’t so much the locals. The problem is importing people from all over the world. Texas currently doesn’t have coronavirus but if the world converges here, the chances skyrocket. Next the event would have to take on the increased costs of sanitizing everything and providing cleaning stations. It’s going to hurt the local economy though but thank god the traffic will suck less.
