US budget deficit up 14.8% for first 5 months of fiscal year

The US government recorded a $624.5 billion budget deficit through the first five months of this budget year, a surge of 14.8% from the same period a year ago. The deficit for February was $235.3 billion, up a slight 0.6%. The deficit is expected to increase even more than anticipated as Washington offers more tax cuts to stimulate the economy to counter the coronavirus threat.
