Musk underplays coronavirus threat in email to employees

In an email to employees at SpaceX, Elon Musk said their risk of dying from COVID-19 is way lower than it is from being killed in a car accident. ’The risk of death from C19 is vastly less than the risk of death from driving your car home’, Musk wrote, adding that evidence suggests the virus is ’not within the top 100 health risks in the US’. Last week, Musk called the coronavirus panic dumb.

And he's *probably* right. 40k a year die on the road every year. It's not as if Corona isn't a problem, it's just not the apocalypse.

Musk is smarter than a very large percentage of the US population and understands statistics, so when he says something like this it is based on mathematics not some emotional hope or feeling.

*views sources* OK, so: tech, left tech, and left. and this is only news because they think they can get clicks from panicking leftists. yes, Coronavirus is serious. No, Elongated Musk is likely not wrong in his statistics.

He's right, you know. in fact, there are at 20 diseases that are more likely to kill you, and a plethora of more commonplace accidents, too.

Remember, the proper way to gauge risk of dying is Deaths/(Deaths + Recoveries), which according to current statistics is about 6%. This number will continue to float until all cases have either died or recovered, and we will probably never have full statistics on those who got mild symptoms. However, 6% is the starting point for discussion.

Elon Musk, go drive from hospital to hospital in northern Italy and tell that to the nurses and doctors there face to face! - With this attitude the US will be like Italy within 4 weeks. - I am amazed, that Elon Musk is able to ignore exponential growth as an engineer...

if him knocking up a c-grade thot wasn’t enough to lose respect for him, the fact that as an engineer he fails to understand exponential growth should cinch it.

This is a germ, a pandemic and highly contagious, Its not comparable to an accident, this guy doesn't care about his employees, he just wants business as usual, the thing about that is, almost each employee will have family, and at least one will be either vulnerable or elderly, his emails are selfish, irresponsible and condescending.

It less risky than drive your car home for NOW. Depending on how this evolves Coronavirus could be apocalyptic for some countries. My guess is this could hurt old countries like Japan the worst.
