Disagreement over abortion slowed COVID19 relief talks, claim reports

As per reports, Democrats and Republicans blamed each other for slowing down negotiations around the Coronavirus Relief Act over their respective stance around abortion. As per The Daily Caller, White House officials accused Nancy Pelosi of attempting to include federal funding for abortion. In contrast, Bloomberg, NBC claimed Republicans demanded an inclusion of the anti-abortion Hyde Amendment.

I just read an article that says the Dems tried to sneak abortion funding into the relief bill. https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/politics/2020/march/report-pelosi-stalled-coronavirus-aid-bill-by-trying-to-sneak-abortion-funding-agenda-into-it? What is the truth? Was the Republican wording a response to this? Is either event real? How does the media ever expect to regain any respect if this is the level of journalism we have to endure. I think this virus situation is exposing the true nature of American journalism. Sensationalism and politics over the dissemination of reliable information.

Non of the above articles make sense. The right leaning sources are accusing the democrats of making COVID-19 relief about abortion. The left leaning sources are accusing the republicans of making COVID-19 relief about the Hyde Amendment. What the heck does abortion and the Hyde Amendment have to do with the emergency going on today, right now?!

Why would abortion be included in a bill COVID-19? Ugh.. Politicians are so unscrupulous. The headline is designed to be neutral.

I can't really tell whose fault this is, since none of the articles give any language of the bill that is in contention, but this conflict seems to stem from peculiarities of the Hyde Amendment, which restricts federal funding for abortion. Hyde must be renewed with each new spending bill, because it restricts finding for that specific bill. It has already been renewed for FY 2020, but since this aid package is a new bill that covers all health related issues, it could be used to skirt the Hyde Amendment. I honestly can't tell if it was intentional or not, it sounds like it was simple language - e.g. "all health related issues" type of language, so I could see it NOT being intentional and simply not considering Hyde at all. However AOC's comments certainly make it sound like they were intentionally skirting Hyde. The proof is in the pudding, though. If it wasn't intentional they should roll over on it immediately. They didn't really do that, but fought for it, which implies they were at least trying to take advantage of the situation.

This is like the Reichstag fire decree for the Dems for goodness sake, they’re using this emergency bill as a pretence to force through their legislation. I’m sure I read a story a few days ago about Dems trying to include PERMANENT funding in an emergency bill 🙄
