German agency says coronavirus could continue for 2 yrs

Germany’s public health agency believes it will take about 2yrs for the coronavirus pandemic to run its course – but it depends on how fast a vaccine is developed. As per Dr. Lothar Wieler, president of the Robert Koch Institute, between 60% & 70% of the global population will eventually become infected before recovering & acquiring immunity but they do not know what death rate will be in the end.

Well, 2 years until what? Last confirmed Covid-19 case? It's quite a possibility that this virus doesn't even go away but keeps coming back every few years with a new mutation. Will the current Chaos go on for 2 more years? quite unlikely. And there is a lot of ifs and maybes because much depends on how we react. The estemate of the RKI of 60 to 70% of global population eventually infected is based basically on an "everybody keeps up the same measures as now" basis (more or less) but no significant new developments in how to fight it. It most likely numbers of new cases will drop in some countries in a few days to weeks already. Depending on how the countries respond. As the US isn't really responding all to strongly and still is lacking behind in tests that will not include US though...
