UK closing all schools indefinitely

United Kingdom education secretary Gavin Williams announced to close all schools starting on Friday. The move comes after Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland had already enacted similar measures as have many European neighbours due to rising cases of coronavirus. Exceptions exist for some children with parents working in essential public services like healthcare, police or delivery drivers.

Reactive closures are useless. Proactive closures could have stopped this before the end of January.

California anticipates kids not going back to school anytime soon. New York is going to follow suit though they haven't officially said so yet.

Another example of socialized medicine failing, if we're using Liberal logic. Or is that only when it "proves" private medicine is wrong?

Any quarantine beyond a month is pointless. You can't keep the whole population cooped up forever. I thought the plan was: 1. Quarantine everyone for a month tops to find out who is symptomatic and who isn't. Everyone disinfects their home and place of work during this time if they can. 2. After a month of quarantine let those who are not symptomatic go back to work or school while you treat those who are symptomatic and keep those in quarantine. 3. Try to get back to normal on a local level but with limited air travel for a while. 4. If an outbreak happens again then quarantine only that area. What we are doing now is the equivalent of killing a spider with a flamethrower.
