California insurance agent faces 12-year sentence for $6 million Ponzi scheme

A former life insurance agent from Poway Island orchestrated a Ponzi scheme of around $6 million. The scheme scammed nearly 50 people according to the California Department of Insurance. Christopher Dougherty, the 47-year-old pleaded guilty to the allegations and is subject to a 12 year prison sentence.
