Google Doodle honors Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis

The practice of washing one’s hands was first proposed in 1847 by Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis, a German-Hungarian physician & scientist known as the ’savior of mothers.’ Friday’s animated Google Doodle, shows the proper way to wash hands to prevent spread of disease, also honors Semmelweis. For it was 173 years ago that he discovered a link between transmitted germs & a high mortality in new mothers.
