Couple marries on NYC street amid coronavirus outbreak

Two women got married Friday at a ceremony held on a small street in the Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights, officiated by one of their friends. Amanda Wheeler, 38, and Reilly Jennings, 28, went to a marriage bureau in NYC to tie the knot, however, the bureau was closed because of the pandemic. Luckily, a friend offered to officiate their wedding outside his fourth-floor apartment.

Marriage should be between a man and a woman. Children need a mother and a father. I have spoken.

Look how far every is away. They may be ridiculous in doing this in public but they are the requisite 6 feet away with no more than five people. Not the best call but at least they can follow basic instructions. Props to these people for doing what they wanted without spreading disease.

After having read the article, I feel a little less weird about it. Apparently the marriage was planned, and their friend is an officiant, it's just COVID-19 got in the way. Fine. My own cerimony was also not 100% conventional main stream standards either. P - In the way observation, and this is not to be taken as moral judgement, both are women, but one of them is clearly playing the role of wife of the relationship, and the other is clearly and quite convincingly representing the role of the husband in the relationship. Given the prevelance of two bride marriages with both in white gowns, this seems a little non conventional for a same sex wedding. Usually, at least if the pictures are an indicator, same sex couples don't try to emulate heterosexual couples, in fact, they seem to do all they can to avoid heterosexual coding. I'm not even sure of the question I want to ask. The closest I can get is to ask why they would have a bride and groom? Is it just their personalities, or is this a repreaentation of the roles they've agreed to fulfill in their relationahip? Combination? I'll probably never know. Not many years ago, I would have suggested they were satirizing traditional marriage, but these two look a little too young to have been part of that fight.

Should this be considered a case of lesbian domestic abuse?
