Coronavirus delays Russian vote on Putin staying in power

Russian President Vladimir Putin has postponed a vote on constitutional change that would allow him to stay in power, because of coronavirus concerns. The public vote - previously due to be held on 22 April - would be delayed until a ’later date’. The proposed changes include scrapping a ban on allowing Mr Putin to run for office again.

Why are they bothering to "vote" on that? Regardless of the numbers, the outcome will be yes.

why bother delaying the "vote" just cancel it and declare yourself president for life and write in provisions for passing power to your personally chosen successor. we all know you are a tyrant, why put up the pretense, the world seems to be falling in love with authoritarian dictators anyway. just tell your people how much you hate gays and watch them cheer.

I actually really like Putin. Hope he stays safe from the virus, and turns out being their president for a long time to come/forever.
