This is a reason to buy a Samsung when you next upgrade. Most people don't upgrade for want of a particular feature, they upgrade as contracts come to an end and they can so they do. So the odds are this won't reduce their potential customer base for new phones. What it will do is show the people who are considering upgrades that Samsung supports their older products well and so these incredibly expensive phones are a safe investment. Whilst, for me, that is just not an argument that would convince me to pay $1400 for a phone, a lot of people seem to think that because they can upgrade, they must upgrade and do so before the contract ends.
