Ethanol plants seek rule changes to resupply hand sanitizer

As hospitals and nursing homes desperately search for hand sanitizers, health care and ethanol industries have called for a relaxed FDA regulation to deal with the public health care emergency. Since the plants these industries use to produce ethanol make food-grade ethanol, a step below the highest pharma grade, the FDA doesn’t permit the alcohol used for a product to be applied to the skin.

Absolutely. Why food grade ethanol would be a grade below that applied to the skin is absolutely beyond me.
