FDA approves 15 minute COVID-19 test

The FDA on Friday approved a coronavirus test that can provide results in less than 15 minutes, using the same technology that powers rapid flu tests. The new diagnostic test could accelerate testing in the United States, allowing for rapid results in doctors’ offices. The test’s maker, Abbott Laboratories, said it expects to deliver 50,000 tests per day beginning next week.

Damn, see what happens when a bunch of companies compete to put out the best product? A few days ago the best you could hope for is a test costing hundreds that takes 4 hours minimum and a lab tech to perform. This is why government shouldn't run any industry.

I’m guessing the mortality rate will drop below 1% once testing is increased. Currently it’s 1.6%.

I hope they work! 50,000 a day?!? I thought when they started doing 16,000 a week was a lot. That's great news!

Good FDA. I just hope the tests are accurate.

Tech crunch says it's not a full proof test. It's a zero logical test. Nonetheless it's helpful in the fight against the Chinese Wuhan Virus.

Capitalism > Taxpayer Funded Healthcare Definitely sucks that it was hard to get tests for the pst few weeks, not that it was available in other countries, but this is a large step towards more efficient and cheaper testing kits.

This may not be perfect on an individual level, but will certainly help us better see the spread in a population. Right now we are running blind. Problem is It also shows antibodies for other viruses besides corvid. We need a test that accurately shows immunity so those people can go back to work.
